With further plans of expansion, SMC Wholesale of Marsh Barton in Exeter are planning to take Europe buy storm with the help of marketing and web technology company Spoton of Torquay.

SMC Wholesale started 25 years ago by Frank Scriven, who began by selling kitchen fittings from the back of a van. In the years that followed, SMC moved to Marsh Barton and with an expanding portfolio of products developed a name for being specialists in melamine, plastic and wood veneer edging tape.

SMC is now the UK’s leading edgebanding supplier. Successful marketing and a new image has increased visibility within the UK and helped create lucrative Irish contracts responsible for over 50% of turnover.

“We needed a change of image, the website and logo were dated and did not suggest the sort of company we wanted to present to the world. We contacted Spoton Corporation and they came up with some great ideas. Based around a new logo and colour scheme, the concept was of a modern, forward thinking company.
‘Within a very tight timeframe Spoton designed and produced a website, a full colour brochure and all the promotional materials and displays for a trade show. This has proved invaluable when competing with other companies, increasing awareness and has produced great results.
“We have hired a new sales manager and are on the look out for more sales staff, we are also looking at improving the manufacturing facility and increasing capacity” Said Louis Ross, Office Manager of SMC.
With their new image and expansion into Europe, SMC’s projected figures are set to double over the next year, creating new jobs and security for another of Exeter’s independent businesses.

The site incorporates a colour match service, online ordering and downloadable swatch selections. We even have an email broadcast facility within the site so that companies can send offers, adverts or newsletters to clients or prospects ” Said Michelle Cummings, Marketing and Sales Manager of Spoton Corporation.
