View Article  Another first for Spoton
The UK’s leading web development company, Spoton Corporation Ltd based in Torquay is delighted to introduce its new technical developments for the second quarter of 2007.

Spoton Ltd has evolved from a small local business into a market leader in web technology (producing the WebEdit websites) and boasts the most experienced design team outside of London. Specialising in all marketing mediums, Spoton’s understanding of business needs has earned a first class reputation throughout the Southwest. Recently won contracts include, Pavey Group, Woodlands Leisure, PCS Catering, Orestone Manor and Simco Marine.

After the successes of the launch of WebEdit in 2005, the web development team have been working on a series of upgrades with new time saving functions and new online edit interface. The WebEdit product now encompasses fully automatic picture resizing, zoom and placement, email broadcasting directly from your website and email capture. All without a content management system or software, the website is changed directly on screen, accessed through a unique login and password.

Anthony Rew of Rew Hotels in Torquay said “ Over the last year since using the WebEdit system we have seen our internet bookings rise from 35% to 75%. Being able to mail offers and change images, text, tariifs and special offers almost instantly has meant we have been able to react to the market without having to go back to a web company. Google seems to love the sites and we have no extra costs, as upgrades such as Zoom and the new text functions are free”.

Spoton are the only UK company developing websites with this type of technology and is therefore revolutionising the way in which a company’s website fits into their business model, becoming a fully interactive marketing tool and customer contact system.

“We are now building sites with more and more time saving gadgets as every company we speak to has a different challenge, we are developing systems to resolve these problems saving the client time and money. Something that every business owner is short of!

“We allow business owners to get on with what they are good at, running their own business. We do not expect them to know all the latest strategies within the marketing industry nor should they, that’s what we are here for”. said marketing and sales manager Michelle Cummings.

Spoton are the only UK company developing websites with this type of technology and is revolutionising the way in which a company’s website fits into their business model, becoming a fully interactive marketing tool and customer contact system.

Managing director Kevin Woods said “The websites have been developed so that they are the building blocks for a company’s marketing strategy. We can design websites that start small and as the company grows add pages and categories with a click of a button. Spoton provide the whole package, from marketing advice to the concept often naming start-ups and re-branding companies at the same time as providing a new website. We work under a strict team ethic that encourages staff participation in every client project.
Our combination of experience and skills enables the client to get a mixture of marketing and design expertise whatever the company size or industry”

View Article  SMC to Storm Europe
With further plans of expansion, SMC Wholesale of Marsh Barton in Exeter are planning to take Europe buy storm with the help of marketing and web technology company Spoton of Torquay.

SMC Wholesale started 25 years ago by Frank Scriven, who began by selling kitchen fittings from the back of a van. In the years that followed, SMC moved to Marsh Barton and with an expanding portfolio of products developed a name for being specialists in melamine, plastic and wood veneer edging tape.

SMC is now the UK’s leading edgebanding supplier. Successful marketing and a new image has increased visibility within the UK and helped create lucrative Irish contracts responsible for over 50% of turnover.

“We needed a change of image, the website and logo were dated and did not suggest the sort of company we wanted to present to the world. We contacted Spoton Corporation and they came up with some great ideas. Based around a new logo and colour scheme, the concept was of a modern, forward thinking company.
‘Within a very tight timeframe Spoton designed and produced a website, a full colour brochure and all the promotional materials and displays for a trade show. This has proved invaluable when competing with other companies, increasing awareness and has produced great results.
“We have hired a new sales manager and are on the look out for more sales staff, we are also looking at improving the manufacturing facility and increasing capacity” Said Louis Ross, Office Manager of SMC.
With their new image and expansion into Europe, SMC’s projected figures are set to double over the next year, creating new jobs and security for another of Exeter’s independent businesses.
“The website is one of the technically advanced WebEdit systems which allows SMC to add pages and change text/images anywhere on the website, and because it is without software, can be changed from any computer anywhere in the world. The site incorporates a colour match service, online ordering and downloadable swatch selections. The Webedit sites are so versatile you can change the site whenever you like to promote particular product lines or special offers. We even have an email broadcast facility within the site so that companies can send offers, adverts or newsletters to clients or prospects ” Said Michelle Cummings, Marketing and Sales Manager of Spoton Corporation.

Louis continued “The website allows our customers to interact with us in a different way than they could previously, the introduction of our website has signalled a new chapter to our continued success here in the UK and globally”.

View Article  Site launch offers “Big Night Out” at Little Theatre
The Little Theatre in Torquay has launched its new website built and designed by Spoton Corporation.

The Little Theatre promises to be a great night out with something to entertain everyone, from well-known classics, thrillers & comedies to groundbreaking works, which offer challenges to audiences & performers alike. With productions such as The Full Monty, The Cemetery Club, Rumors and A Streetcar Named Desire there is truly something for everyone.

Winner of the English Riviera’s “Best Night Out in Torbay” award in 2005 and 2006, the Little Theatre also offers gourmet dinning in the bistro, with tables available for pre and post performance meals.

The Little Theatre is run mostly by volunteers and is home to Toads Theatre Company who raised the £250,000 needed to secure and renovate the redundant church in St Marks Road, Meadfoot, in 1982.

Since then The Little Theatre has become a favorite for locals and holidaymakers, who like the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the unique theatrical environment.

Toads Theatre Company sought the advice of Spoton Corporation who produced the site at a heavily subsidised cost. Marketing and Sales Manager of Spoton Michelle Cummings said “We have been working with the Little Theatre now for over a year and have designed and produced all their posters and leaflets. They came to us asking for a new website that would improve their online presence and aid with their marketing. Being a company where the performance programme is constantly changing, they couldn’t have an old style static website so opted for the WebEdit functionality which gives them the option to change images and text with the click of a button. I feel it is very important that we should support local businesses as much as we can”

Sarah O’Connor, Manager of The Little Theatre said, “I would like to thank Spoton for their help and advice to raise the profile of the theatre. If anyone has not yet been to see a production here they really should give it a try. It is a unique venue and the standard of performance here is exceptionally high. We are the only theatre in the Bay to offer such a regular programme of plays, from both amateur companies and visiting professional companies. At The Little Theatre you will find a range of productions throughout the year, which will captivate and inspire audiences of all ages.”

The box office number is 01803 299330 and the website address is www.toadstheatre.co.uk

View Article  Why Exhibit
Why exhibit?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Exhibitions, whether trade or consumer, have the advantage over other forms of advertising as they can deliver all key marketing objectives in one hit.

  • A guaranteed highly targeted audience.
  • A pro-active platform, where the buyers come to you.
  • An ideal opportunity to demonstrate existing products and launch new products.
  • A chance to answer any questions concerning the product
  • Face-to-face customer contact, which is the best way to build on relationships and form new ones with potential customers.
  • Market research for product development.
  • A means of generating positive media coverage.

Exhibitions can produce excellent results for your company with a good return on investment, if planned and implemented well.

Effective Exhibiting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is essential to plan ahead when preparing for an exhibition.
  1. Items that need to be considered are –
Time scales – Planning ahead will make everyone’s life easier, so ensure this is taken into account. Allocate the responsibility of key tasks to the appropriate individual or department together with deadlines.
  2. Budgets - The budget for your exhibition needs to be distributed between stand space, sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
  3. Staffing requirements - All staff need to undergo some form of training as often the success of the show will be determined by the skills of the people on the stand.
  4. Publicity – Publicity is essential. It is important to think about visitor promotion, mailings and adverts. Invite the people you want to meet there.
  5. Space requirements – Know how much space is available and design the best and most eye-catching stand possible.
  6. Services - Reputable stand builders, graphic designers and photographers will be needed. See our resources link for a list of services.
  7. Visitor statistics - Visitor statistics for the show, including visitor profiles, buying patterns, job titles and spend are important to research in order to help you target your audience more effectively and ensure you get the best possible return on your investment.
  8. Criteria for stand and graphic design – It is important to know your market and cater appropriately to ensure the best results possible.
  9. Measure your success - Some tangible return must be proved. Set your targets and measure your performance against these.
  10. Follow up leads – Work doesn’t stop after the show. Follow up all potential leads, these may convert into more customers.

For effective exhibiting, it is essential to combine a great looking stand with trained and motivated staff who can approach potential customers, engage them in conversation about the products on display, secure their custom and follow up this lead.

The Right Exhibition

------------------------------------------------------------------

Target the most appropriate events for your company with our show search page which gives details of sites that list major exhibitions and their organisers.

To have a clear idea of each exhibition that you’re considering it is important that you contact the show’s organisers and clarify any details that will assist you in producing a more effective exhibition leading to a higher return on investment.

Points to establish:

  • Proof of attendance and the type of people that the show attracts. Knowing your audience will provide you with a clearer idea of how best to cater for them.
  • Publicity - Is the event well advertised in trade magazines. These magazines chosen by the organisers should also give you a clearer idea of the show’s suitability for your products or services.
  • Is it an established event or a new event? If new, how long has the organiser been established and what are their credentials?

In depth research into the most appropriate exhibition show for your company is as important as planning the stand while exhibiting there. No matter how effective your stand is it will not work if you target the wrong people.

Making a Stand

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Having a competitive advantage at exhibitions is crucial for your company and the stand is an important factor.

Booking space - For an ideal site, book early. Look out for columns, switch boxes and height restrictions. Also, consider an island or corner site as they offer more open sides and therefore more opportunities for you to attract the visitor.

Bring your company to life – exhibitions are unique as they are the only sales medium able to engage all five senses. Exhibitions allow you to touch, taste, see, feel and hear the products and services on offer. As an exhibitor, bringing your service or product to life is guaranteed to have a higher impact on your visitors. Reams of text will go unread and probably unnoticed. Powerful graphics, however, will attract visitors. To keep these visitors think about how your staff can interact with those features. Maybe, with the aid of gimmicks, uniforms and sales patter. Think about the use of turntables, lighting, video, and clever graphics to demonstrate what you have to offer. Free refreshments, competitions, incentives, bonus offers and give-aways all have their part to play.

Staff

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Successful exhibiting isn’t as easy as having a good stand. Although, obviously, having a smart display stand is vital, as that is your corporate image on very public display. Research has shown, however, that 80 per cent of the success of your show is down to your stand staff.
Exhibition visitors are not only serious but also very receptive, after all they have chosen to come to you, therefore as an exhibitor you are in a good position.

It is important that all visitors are treated with attention. Directors and senior managers attend these events, to meet new companies with whom they can work. Potential customers will also be visiting and it is up to the staff to turn these into customers.

Exhibitions provide an ideal opportunity for the buyer and seller, the staff and visitor to meet face to face. Staff training is essential in order for them to acquire the skills necessary to make the most of this opportunity and turn the show into a success for their business.

Pre-event sales and marketing activities will aid the success of the show. Contact all your prospects, lapsed clients and minor prospects and give them a good reason to seek you out at the show. Call your hottest prospects and invite them to see you personally at the show

The Visitor

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Research into who is likely to attend the exhibition will help in deciding what to exhibit and the best way to put the most appropriate message across. The organisers of the event should be able to give you an idea of who visits the show, which will assist you in knowing who you can aim to attract.
Consider carefully the products that your visitors will be most interested in and target them accordingly.

Budgets

-------------------------------------------------------------------

To assist in working out the cost of exhibiting, make a comprehensive list of the major expenses, including:

  • Cost of space
  • Cost of electrical, water and waste connection
  • Stand design and construction
  • Show linked promotions
  • Staffing costs
  • Catering / hospitality
  • Furniture hire
  • Transport

This should give a fairly accurate budget as most items are fixed costs.

Follow Up - ruthlessly

------------------------------------------------------------------

If you go to all the effort of organising your company’s participation at an event and then neglect to follow up leads attained while there, then the exhibition will be less effective as you have essentially thrown away potential customers.

Before the show takes place, plan dates to follow up all leads.

Make the most of the event. A lot of time, effort and expense will go into organising the show, it is essential therefore to approach the time spent at the exhibition with enthusiasm and a willingness to talk to visitors in order to gain good results.

If you want the exhibition to work for you and your company you have to work at it.
